Beaches

Cape Town has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, beaches to suit everyone, which have earned blue flag status.  Whether you are after a secluded cove, swimming beach, surfing or just to watch the beautiful people, Cape Town has it all.

Clifton Beach

Right on your doorstep are Clifton’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th beaches, each beach separated by giant boulders sheltering you from the strong wind.  Each beach has a personality of its own : 

1st Beach is a dog friendly beach, perfect to escape the crowds and great for board surfing. 2nd Beach is perfect for the younger crowd especially students. 3rd Beach is popular amongst the gay population although it is open to everyone and is not as crowded as the other beaches. 4th Beach is the most popular of the 4 beaches mainly frequented by the beautiful trendy people. 4th Beach holds Blue Flag status which is an international award given to beaches that are clean, safe, offer great amenities and implement environmental conscious initiatives. Topless sunbathing is allowed. 

Camps Bay Beach

Camps Bay Beach is popular amongst the locals and is great for people watching, families, sun bathing, playing beach volleyball, or walking the dogs.  Across the road you will find the Camps Bay strip offering many cafes, bars and restaurants. 

Llandudno Beach

Llandudno Beach is 11 kms (7 miles) from Clifton on the way to Hout Bay and is a favourite amongst the locals.  The soft sandy cover is perfect for building sandcastles, playing frisbee, surfing and body boarders.  As it is far from shops, we recommend that you take a picnic basket with you and plenty of beverages. 

Boulders Beach

If you are wanting a superb selfie with the adorable penguins, then Boulders Beach is the beach to visit.  It is home to a huge colony of African penguins that will look great on Instagram.  The sea water is just slightly warmer and it is great for safe swimming for the children.   Boulders Beach is 40 km (25 miles) from Clifton in Simon’s Town but well worth the visit. 

Muizenberg Beach

Muizenberg Beach is a family friendly beach popular with dog walkers and surfers with warmer water, Blue Flag status and 40kms (25 miles) from Clifton.  Its the best spot for beginner surfers and is a hub of activity with water slides, beaches, shops and restaurants.  The waves are ideal for surfers starting out or children having their first lesson. In all images of Muizenberg Beach you will see the post-card perfect Victorian beach houses stretched across the beach. 

Sandy Bay
Llandudno

Sandy Bay is South Africa’s only nudist beach situated close to Llandudno, 14 kms (9 miles) from Clifton.  The far side of the beach is a popular gay section.  The beach is remote with no toilets and no restaurants,  so take a cooler bag with drinks and snacks.
